Jaipur, Sep 12 (UNI) Bharatiya Janta Party(BJP) today said that it favoured economic status based reservation for poor people in addition to the prevailing caste based reservation system.
Talking to reporters here today the party spokesman Prakash Javadekar said that besides backward and dalit communities poor and needy people should also get benefits of reservation.
He said that BJP expected that the government would initiate the requisite process for extending the benefits to economically weaker strata of society.
Over the issue of the ongoing Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan for inclusion of the community in ST list, Mr Javadekar favoured extension of term to the three member Justice Chopra Committee, constituted by the state governemnt for examining the Gujjar demand, and said that completion of the process undertaken by the committee would benefit all.
He hoped that the issue would be solved in an amicable manner.
