3 dead, 24 injured in two separate accidents in Amreli

Rajkot, Sep 12 (UNI) Three persons were killed and 24 other were injured in two separate accidents in Amreli district yesterday.

In the first incident, two persons were killed and two other were injured when a car in which they were travelling rammed into a running train at an unmanned railway crossing near Rampara village.

The local passenger train was on way to Veraval when the incident took place. The injured were rushed to the Rajkot civil hospital, sources said.

The occupants of the ill-fated car were going to Lathi from Gandhidham to perform religious rights on the last day of the Shravan month, sources informed.

Those killed have been identified as Arvind Karelia (49) and Bhadresh Babulal (45).

The second incident took place near Savarkundla, where one person was killed and 22 other were injured when a State Transport Roadways bus plunged into the river from the Dhatarvadi bridge.

The bus fell into the river when the driver was trying to avert an accident with a vehicle coming from the opposite side and in the process lost his control over the wheel.

Three of the seriously injured passengers were rushed to the Rajkot civil hospital, while two were shifted to Amreli and rest are being treated at the Savarkundla hospital, sources said.

The deceased has been identified as Babubhai Chudasma (60), sources added.
