NEW YORK, Aug 27 (Reuters) Third seed Jelena Jankovic survived a second-set wobble to beat Jarmila Gajdosova of Slovakia 6-2 7-6 in the first round of the US Open today.
Jankovic, a semi-finalist here last year, led 5-3, 0-40 on her opponent's serve in the second set but had to go through a tiebreak to clinch victory.
The Serb, who has won four titles in 2007, broke serve twice in the first set before missing three match points in the eighth game and two more in the ninth.
But Jankovic rebounded to take the tiebreak 7-2, winning on her seventh match point to clinch a meeting with Olga Govortsova of Belarus.
