Shahbaaz, Balaji, Ajay Bhushan crash out

By Staff

Vasco, Aug 27 (UNI) Three of the eight Indians in the fray fell by the wayside on the penultimate day of the Vascon-Manisha IBSF World Under-21 Snooker Championship at the Bogmallo Beach Resort here today.

Shahbaaz Adil Khan, Balaji Reddy and Ajay Bhushan crashed out. Li Hang, who Shahbaaz beat yesterday, lost to Malyasian John Loh 1-4 after making a break of 105, the sixth century break of the event. Loh prevailed over Shahbaaz on better (plus 2) frame difference.

Balaji Reddy in Group B crashed to his fifth defeat and was out with a 1-5 record. Ajay Bhushan was also sidelined losing 0-4 to Malaysian Thor Chuan Leong. He finished with a 2-4 record.

Of the five remaining Indians, Younis Kuchey beat Nedal Al Bakshy 4-1 to be the most impressive Indian qualifier, Pushpinder was 3-2 up and in with a chance, while Shivam Arora made it with 3-3.

Rishab Pandya (3-3) and Shravan Mohta (3-2) were expected to make it with having weak opponents in their last ties.

The title contender from England, Robbie Williams, had the misfortune of the tip of his cue coming off. The replacement was not a happy one and the discomfort saw him lose a match he should have won, to Egyptian No 1 El Shrbene Yasser 2-4.

Robbie had been taken to the decider by David Hogan in the top table clash last evening.

Thailand had three among the five unbeaten players in the event: Chinnakrit Yaowannasri, Passakorn Suwannawat and Pramual Jantad.

Daniel Wells (Wales) and Moh Keen Hoo (Malaysia) are the others.

In the girls, China's Bi Zuqing was the only unbeaten player while only one Indian out of the four was headed for the last four - Lavanya or Arantxa Sanchis, who meet each other tomorrow.
