Sania scales new career-high rankings in both singles and doubles

New Delhi, Aug 27 (UNI) Riding on an impressive show in the US courts, Sania Mirza reached her career-best ranking in both singles and doubles, moving up one place to 27th in singles and four places to 20th in doubles in the latest WTA rankings released today.

The 20-year-old Hyderabadi broke into top 30 early this month following a phenomenal three-week run in the US hard court circuit which saw her upset many top 20 players in Cincinnati, Stanford, San Diego and New Haven.

She will partner one of her biggest supporters Mahesh Bhupathi in the mixed doubles of the last Grandslam of the season -- the US Open which kick starts from today.

By virtue of her recent victory in the just-concluded Pilot Pen Open, partnering Mara Santangelo of Italy, Sania made a significant jump of four places to 20th in the newly issued doubles chart.

However, in the US Open she will partner Bethanie Mattek of United States. The duo had earlier reached the quarterfinals at the East West Bank Classic in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, in the ATP rankings, Rohan Bopanna dropped an unimaginable 38 places to stand at 261st postion. His other compatriots Prakash Amritraj and upcoming Karan Rastogi also followed his suit slipping two and four places, to be placed at 272nd and 344th postions respectively.

However, the only consolation in the singles rankings came in the form of Sunil Kumar Sipaeya, who moved six rungs above to 446th position.

In the individual doubles rankings, following his recent exploits at New Haven partnering Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia, Mahesh Bhupathi rose two places to figure at the 18th position, while his estranged partner Leander Paes mantained his previous week's 8th positon.

After jumping five places in the previous week's chart, courtesy the Challenger series win in New York -- his fourth title this season, Rohan Bopanna slipped dropped three places this week to be placed at 87th.
