Haryana Wakf Board earmarks Rs 2.72 cr for current year

Ambala, Aug 27 (UNI) The Haryana Wakf Board (HWB) has allocated Rs 2.72 crore for educational, welfare and development schemes for the current financial year.

The Board had spent Rs 1.57 crore on such schemes last year, HWB Chairman Hamid Hussain said while delivering presidential address at the 4th Annual General Meeting of the Board here today.

Mr Hamid said when the HWB was formed on August 1, 2003 after the dissolution of joint Punjab Waqf Board, its economic condition was not good. Its total annual income then was Rs 3.92 crore which had now increased to Rs eight crore.

He said the Board would spend Rs 1.29 crore on the construction of school buildings and branch offices in the current year. The Board had recovered its 86 encroached properties by way of compromise.

Chief Executive Officer Hanif Qureshi in his annual report stated that the Board had earned revenue of Rs 8.05 crore, which was all time high in the history of HWB.

Announcing future plans, he said the Board had made a provision of Rs 60.50 lakh for developmental activities, Rs 73.50 lakh for educational and Rs 137.60 lakh for welfare activities in its budget for 2007-08.

On the occasion, the 4th Khwaja Altaf Hussain Hali Award for the year 2007 was conferred on Urdu litterateur K L Zakir. Some estate officers and rent collectors were also awarded for their performance in revenue collections.
