New Delhi, Aug 27 (UNI) Assembly elections in Gujarat later this year are expected to be high on the agenda of the three-day BJP National Executive meeting, scheduled to be held at Bhopal from September 21.

Highly placed party sources told UNI that the Bhopal Executive meet would mainly concentrate on Gujarat election. But other issues of national importance like the Indo-US nuclear deal would also come up during deliberations.

The meet would also review organisational performance at the booth level for which the party had launched a nation-wide campaign, the sources said.

The Executive, they said, would fine tune the strategy for assembly elections in Gujarat. Leaving nothing to chance, the party had last month appointed General Secretary Arun Jaitley as election incharge for the state.

Mr Jaitley is expected to visit Gujarat next month to review the situation in the state, where dissidents were posing a problem for Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Sources said Mr Jailey would review the election preparations and try to curb dissidence.

The party General Secretary is understood to have already held talks with dissident leaders, including former chief minister Keshubhai Patel and Mr Suresh Mehta.

Party president Rajnath Singh also held a meeting with Gujarat MPs at his residence last week in which Mr Keshubhai Patel and Mr Mehta were present, sources said.
