Chennai leg of World Cyber Games concludes

Chennai, Aug 27 (UNI) The Chennai Leg of the World Cyber Games (WCG), presented by Samsung India, concluded here today.

The event was organised by Indiagames in the top metro cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai this year with the semi-finals and India finals being played in Mumbai on September ten.

The WCG India preliminaries were kicked off in New Delhi on August 18 and held in Kolkata and Hyderabad before it moved here.

WCG -- a unique computer gaming event of international repute-- is designed to build a healthy cyber culture.

The best gamers around the world gather in various cities to share the excitement and fun of the tournaments.

The WCG had been promoted on the lines of the International Olympic Movement. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd of South Korea - is the main sponsor for the event in over 70 countries this year.

The winners from each country will compete in the finals to be held at Seattle in Washington, USA.

The WCG includes the following team as well as individual games -- Counter Strike 1.6 (a 5 member team game), Warcraft-III, FIFA Soccer 2007, Need for Speed, Age of Empires III and Project Gotham Racing.

''Gaming is emerging as a very strong entertainment platform across the world, especially amongst the youth and the WCG with its slogan of 'Beyond the Game' seeks to promote healthy cyber culture.

Samsung aims to utilise this e-sports platform to help fuel the development of the gaming industry in India, as well as globally,'' Samsung Deputy Managing Director R Zutshi told reporters.

The highlight of WCG-2007 Tournament would be a friendly 'Counterstrike' match between the India Finalists and the Pakistani 'Counterstrike' team, who are flying down to Mumbai for this Match.

This Match will be held post WCG India Finals on September ten this year.

The Chennai Preliminaries will be followed by the Bangalore (August 29 and 30) and Mumbai (September seven and eight) followed by finals.
