Auto majors dominated IMTMA Siemens productivity awards

Bangalore, Aug 27 (UNI) Auto majors from across the country walked away with a significant number of productivity awards at the second annual Productivity Summit of the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers Association held in the city.

The IMTMA - SIEMENS Productivity Championship Awards 2007, one of the most sought after in the manufacturing industry saw Maruti Udyog bagging three awards with the TVS Motor Company bagging the award for the best work in ''productivity through metrics' and the prestigious award for Productivity through quality going to Bajaj Auto.

''The primary objective of these awards is to recognise, reward and encourage achievers who have contributed to productivity improvement in metalworking industries. IMTMA fervently hopes that its efforts will lead to a 'Productivity Movement' among Indian industries, which will take the country towards global manufacturing competitiveness.''said IMTMA President N.K. Dhand in a post summit press release here today.

Every year, the award acknowledged and recogniseds creativity and innovativeness of Indian manufacturers in their stride towards attaining highest levels of productivity.

The winners this year were Productivity through quality Bajaj Auto Limited, Waluj, winners, Maruti Udyog Limited, Gurgaon, second Productivity through Metrics: TVS Motor Co, Hosur, Winner, Maruti Udyog Limited, Gurgaon, second, Mahindra&Mahindra, Mumbai, third Optimizing metalworking process: Lucus,, TVS, Chennai, winner.

Reducing idle time: Kirloskar Toyotaa Textile Machinery, Bangalore winners, SONO KOYO Steering Systems, Gurgaon, second Manufacturing System Redesign HAL, Kanpur winner, Mahindra&Mahindra, Mumbai second, MICO, Bangalore third.

Better Asset Utilization- Sundaram-Clayton Ltd, Chennai winner, Mahindra&Mahindra Ltd, Mumbai second, Amararaja Batteries Ltd.

Tirupathi third Leveraging IT for productivity: BHEL Hyderabad Sixteen top companies from the Auto sector such as Bajaj Auto, Maruti Udyog, Mahindra&Mahindra, Sundaram Clayton, TVS Motor Co.

as well as key manufacturing conglomerates such as BHEL and HAL competed for the prestigious awards. These companies came through a stringent evaluation process from over 200 entries received. 21 case studies were selected for the final presentation round to compete for the seven key streams of the awards-the final round of championship. The award winners were selected by a distinguished jury of eminent persons with acknowledged contribution at the highest level to the manufacturing field in India.
