ABVP demands suspension of SHO; stages dharna

Dehra Dun, Aug 27 (UNI) All the educational institutions in this district remained closed today following the day-long bandh called by Akhil Bharatiya Vishyarthi Parishad (ABVP) demanding suspension of a policemen who had arrested a college president recently.

The AVBP members also held a dharna at Gandhi Park in support of their demand under the leadership of ABVP State President Om Kakkad and State Pramukh Pratinidhi Siksha Aditya Chauhan.

SHO Mahendra Singh Negi had arrested DAV (PG) College Student Union President and his supporters after the celebration of his victory in the college elections took an ugly turn with students ransacking several hotels and petrol pumps.

However, after being kept in prison for a night, they were later released.

In a bid to mount pressure, the ABVP yesterday called for a day's closure of all the educational institutions.

The BJP government declared holiday in all the schools and colleges in the district to avoid any untoward incident.

ABVP leader Aditya Chauhan said they would continue with their demands till the SHO was suspended, adding a meeting would be held this evening to chalk out the future course of action.
