Mysore Airport to be ready by October 2009

Mysore, Aug 26: Mysore Airport will be ready for operation by October 2009, Union Ministry of Civil Aviation Joint Secretary K N Srivatsava said today.

Speaking to newsmen after inspecting the works at Mandakali Airport, near here, he said that the works were expected to be completed by January 2009 and after trail run and testing the runway it would be ready for operation by Dasara Festivities in 2009.

He said that in the first phase of works two run ways of 1740 meters and 1350 meters would be prepared to facilitate operation of both small and big aircraft. Technical Block cum control tower, fire station, parking lot and electricity sub station would also be taken up in the first phase of works. The airport would be developed in 416 acres of land.

Karnataka Infrastructure Development Principal Secretary V P Baligar, who accompanied AAI officials during inspection said that it was proposed to develop 12 airports in the State and Mysore Airport was on the priority list. Mysore Airport would be developed into full fledged airport and additional 500 acres of land would be acquired and handed over to the AAI for building bigger runways to accommodate bigger aircraft.
