Kuvempu univ to set up culture study centre

Bangalore, Aug 21: Kuvempu varsity in association with Ghent University of Belgium will setup Centre for Study of Culture.
Preliminary meeting was held on August 17 in which representatives from Ghent University also took part, informed Vice Chancellor of Kuvempu University Prof B S Sherigar.

At the academic council meeting of Kuvempu University at Jnanasahyadri campus in Shankaraghatta on Monday,the Prof said that Ghent University will provide Rs 1.75 crore grant for the purpose.

Joint research work will be undertaken in the university with the assistance of Flemish International University and Karnataka Social Sciences Academy. The project is of 10 years duration for which Flemish University and State Government will provide annual grant of Rs 4 crore each, he informed.

Committee was constituted under Prof S A Bari to design plan for availing financial assistance under 11th five year plan.
The committee has submitted its report and a plan of Rs 18 crore has been designed, he stated.

PG centre

Vice Chancellor said that post graduation centre in Kadur will come up at Rs 2 crore cost. MBA, PG courses in Business Economics and Industrial Chemistry will be offered in the centre.Building which hosts Master in Tourism Administration course will come up at Sahyadri College at Rs 88 lakh cost.

State Government has agreed to provide Rs 2 crore for the construction of stadium at the college, he informed. Speaking at the meet, Registrar Udaykumar clarified that studying Indian Constitution and Environment Science is mandatory for BE students. Students who clear these papers can avail original marks card and convocation certificate. Even Supreme Court's verdict has also upheld the same, he stated.

Meet resolved to begin BE in Information Science at UBDT Engineering College from the coming academic year and according permanent affiliation for Ghantakanive AVS College and Hosadurga VijayaSangama College.

Academic council members Prof Made Gowda, Prof Rajendra Chenni, Prof Panchaksharappa, Dr S A Bari, Dr Basavaraj Nellisara, Dr Umadevi took part in the meet.
