Infosys best IT exporter in Karnataka

Bangalore, Aug 9: IT giant Infosys Technologies has bagged the 'IT Exporter in Karnataka' Award for being the highest exporter of IT services from the State.

Infosys CEO and Managing Director, S Gopalakrishnan, received the Award at a glittering function organised by the Department of Information Technology here yesterday.

City based IT major, Wipro, bagged the second place among the Indian companies .

The Certificate of Excellence for the next two leading major Indian companies were given away to Tata Consultancy Services and i-Flex Solutions Ltd.

The export awards for the two top foreign equity companies was awarded to IBM India Pvt Ltd and Accenture Services Pvt Ltd respectively.

Infosys BPO was adjudged the top Indian ITeS/BPO company ahead of FirstSource Solutions Ltd. Among the foreign companies in the segment, Dell Computer India and HTMT Global Solutions were adjudged the top two companies respectively.

Companies based in sub-centres like Mysore, Hubli and Mangalore were also honoured for their contributions to the country's export earnings.

Giving away the awards, Union IT Secretary, Jainder Singh, said to help the Indian IT companies to be globally competitive, they should be provided with infrastructure and residential facilities of world standards. Lauding the progress made by Karnataka, especially Bangalore city, in the field of IT, he said the city had succeeded in becoming the top destination for IT companies because of its ability to handle the 'change'. "We have seen a sea of technological changes in the last 20 years and Bangalore has proved to be the best city to handle the change effectively," he added.

To cater to the ever increasing needs of quality mind power by the IT sector, it was important that IT finishing schools be set up in strategic parts of the country. He appreciated Karnataka for initiating steps to set up such schools for the first time in the country.

In his message, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy urged the Union government to extend the tax benefits under STPI scheme beyond the year 2009 by at least ten more years.
