Mumbai, July 25 (UNI) The pistol from which Parveen Mahajan had allegedly shot at his elder brother Pramod Mahajan on April 22 last year, which led to the BJP's leader's death, did not contain the fingerprints of the accused, a fingerprint expert told the trial court here today.

Deposing before Additional Sessions Judge S P Davare, fingerprint expert Rekha Vaidya told the court that there were no fingerprints of Praveen on the pistol from which he had fired three rounds at Pramod Mahajan.

Ms Vaidya cited three reasons to explain the circumstances whereby, the fingerprints would not be found on the weapon. She said this could happen if the pistol's surface was rough, there was no pressure on the pistol or the person firing the pistol was sweating profusely.

Replying to another query raised by Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, she said the accused's fingerprints were, however, found on the glass of water.

The expert said she had received five sheets of fingerprints on April 29, 2006, from Senior Police Inspector of Worli police station. She took one sheet containing fingerprints on the glass and one sheet of 'speciemen' fingerprints and matched both. The fingerprints on the glass and speciemen sheet was that of one person, she added. Her cross-examination will continue tomorrow.

Earlier, a Hinduja Hospital doctor was examined, who had conducted a medical examination on the wounded Pramod Mahajan after being admitted to the hospital. The doctor had taken all details of the incident from Pramod's wife Rekha Mahajan.

On April 22 last year, Praveen Mahajan had allegedly shot at his elder brother and BJP leader Pramod Mahajan. Later, he surrendered before the police. Pramod succumbed to his injuries in the Hospital on May 3 the same year.
