Bhubaneswar, Jul 23: Private sector International Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences and Research (IIRS) is planning to establish a university in Orissa to generate professionals to serve disabled people by 2012.

IIRS Director Chitrasen Parida said the Trust had already acquired land and construction was going on.

Mr Parida said the trust is currently running a clinic to provide comprehensive and diagnostic clinical services for individuals with , cerebral palsy, autism, speech and hearing disorders. It also had a pre-school for the disabled children to bring them to at par with normal children.

The trust is starting degree courses in audiology, speech language pathology and Physiotherapy from next month.

The Director said the decision to introduce the course was taken as there was acute shortage of professionals in the area of physiotherapy, audiology and speech language pathology in the state.

Mr Parida said IIRS would bridge up the gap between the requirement and availability of skilled manpower to serve the disabled people in the state.
