Shimla, July 22 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh is poised to emerge a major power state in the near future after harnessing its identified hydel potential, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said.
Addressing the executive committee meeting of the state Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) here last evening, he said the state was striving hard to harness the entire identified hydel potential expeditiously and construction was on at a large number of hydel projects.
Mr Singh said Himachal had so far harness about 6,500 MW of hydel power and an equal capacity of projects were under various stages of construction.
The state government has also floated global tenders for bigger projects and work on these would begin soon after completing codal formalities, he said.
He lauded the Congress' labour union INTUC for following the principles of peace, non-violent and democratic ideology.
