Tata Luxury and Small bus plant in K'taka soon

Bangalore, July 17: Karnataka Industries Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu today informed the Legislative Council that Tata Motors has proposed to establish a new unit for manufacturing Luxury and small buses in Dharwad.

Replying to Basavraj Bommai (JD), he said the company also proposes to manufacture Light Commercial Vehicles.

Under the proposal, the company intends to invest Rs 2044 Crore.

"The unit would generate employment opportunity to 10,400 people," he added.

Mr Naidu said the company, which was already been sanctioned 647 acres on Lease-cum-sale basis for a Bodybuilding unit, had asked for additional 300 acres for the new unit and the same has been approved by the government in principle.

The Minister said that the State government was committed to implement Sarojini Mahishi report in total and about providing employment to localists would be convened to the Company.

Earlier, Mr Bommai said that the Company was neglecting localists while recruiting and only people from northern states were being employed.

He said that though 600 acres of land was allotted to the company only 100 acres was utilised and the government was not maintaining any watch whether the land allotted was utilised or not.
