Drive against traders cheating tourists in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 5 (UNI) Concerned over the reports about traders cheating tourists, the Enforcement Wing (EW) of State Tourism Department has intensified drive against the defaulters and violators of Jammu and Kashmir Registration of Tourist Trade Act in the State.

Besides refunding Rs 12900 to tourists, the EW destroyed a large quantity of duplicate saffron and fined 139 defaulters in the valley.

An official spokesman said during the month of June 2007, the EW had fined Rs 19950 against 139 defaulters at Srinagar, Sonamarg, Pahalgam and Gulmarg tourist places.

Besides, this, Rs 12900 were retrieved and refunded to the tourists.

He said during its special drive at health resorts, the EW had seized and destroyed a large quantity of duplicate saffron and initiated action against the cheaters.

For the convenience of the yatries and smooth conduct of holy Amarnath Yatra, the Department of Tourism and Tourist Police have jointly published and distributed pamphlets containing information regarding pilgrimage.
