Bangalore, July 4: Two persons were feared drowned as flood levels in Krishna river remained high, while rains gave some respite in monsoon battered Kodagu district that brought good inflows into the rivers in the Cauvery basin during the last one week.

Officials said inflow into Krishna, which enters Karnataka in Belgaum district, remained high at two lakh cusecs, even as rainfall came down to some extent in the catchment areas in Maharashtra. The swollen Krishna continued to cause concerns in Bijapur, Bagalkot and Gulbarga districts as well.

Two unidentified persons, one each belonging to Biradi and Jalalpur villages in Raibag taluk of Bijapur district, went missing and were suspected to have drowned in flood waters. The rising flood water was overflowing on 17 roads in the district.

The inflow into Almatti reservoir across the river in Bagalkot district stood at 2.32 lakh cusecs, while 2.21 lakh cusecs was being let out to downstream Narayanapur reservoir in Gulbarga. The level stood at 524.76 m as against the full level of 519 m.

From Rajapur barrage in Maharashtra 1.95 lakh cusecs was being released. This included 2300 cusecs from Koyna and 60,000 cusecs from Panchganga, a tributary of Krishna in Sangli division.

Authorities at Narayanapur let out 2.17 lakh cusecs of water to Jurala project in Andhra Pradesh. The inflow as 2.20 lakh cusecs while the water level was 490.15 m.

In Gulbarga, the level in Bhima which threatened to inundate villages due to increasing discharge from dams in Maharashtra shows downward trend. Water level came down as it was flowing at a level of 2.20 m as against 3.96 m at Devalgaon bridge gauging point in Afzalpur taluk with 4.5 m being the danger mark.

18,000 cusecs of water was now flowing in Bhima which merges Krishna near Mehaboobnagar in AP.

Over 50,000 cusecs of water was flowing into Krishnarajasagar across Cauvery near Mysore. The inflow levels rose in Hemavathi and Kabini rivers, tributaries of Cauvery, due to good rains in Hassan in Karnataka and Wynad in Kerala respectively. The level at KRS went up to 102.30 ft, a five-foot increase since yesterday.

Kodagu, reeling under the rain havoc which had caused landslides, water overflowing over several bridges, uprooting of hundreds of trees and road blockages was limping back to normalcy, officials said.
