Kolkata, June 26 (UNI) With the ongoing controversy over SEZ in Nandigram, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today said British consultancy firm CMS Cameron McKenna and Mott MacDonald has suggested that the proposed chemical hub should be located near Haldia.

Speaking at a seminar on '' Technology intervention in Micro&Small Sector: Challanges'', the Chief Minister said, ''In a recent meeting convened by the Union government in Delhi, the Centre has decided that three to four chemical hubs will be set up in the country.'' He said this while referring to MacDonalds' report suggesting Haldia was an ideal location for setting up SEZs.

Eight states participated in the meet and Bengal topped the list with its presentation, he claimed.

The state government has not finalised the location of the chemical hub, which it had earlier wanted to set up in Nandigram, with Indian Oil Corporation as the anchor investor.

''We have now decided not to go to Nandigram. We had tried to build a consensus among the political parties, especially our opposition on SEZ in Nandigram. But before we could make them understand, they misled the people,'' Mr Bhattacharjee said.

Elaborating on the prospects of the chemical hub, he said it would not only open employment opportunities but also various downstream industries, including polymer and rubber.
