Bangalore, June 22: The Silicon volley of India, Bangalore will add another feather to its cap when Bio-Science Park built at a cost of USD 120 Million comes up in the Electronic City here.

Karnataka government would shortly issue the work order to US-based Alexandria Real Estate Equities Inc, which specialises in medical and science laboratories, to build the Bioscience Park.

Disclosing this to sources, Karnataka IT and BT Principal Secretary M N Vidyashankar said that the cabinet had accorded sanction to build the Park in eight-million square ft facility and the work order would be issued in a few day's time.

The MoU, was signed during the recently concluded Bangalore Bio-2007.

Alexandria, which won the project beating 24 companies in the worldwide tender, would take up expansion of the 2nd and 3rd phases of upcoming Bio-Science park -- Bangalore Helix. The first phase was being developed by Singapore-based JTC Corporation. The Bio-Science Park was being developed on a public-private partnership, he added.

"This is first time that Alexandria is venturing out of the United States. It has already developed nearly 170 Biotech Parks in the US and the infrastructure major coming to India will open the gates for BT majors based in the US to come to the country to set up their units," he added.

He said the Pasadena-based company would set up a complete facility including green houses, incubation centres, dry and wet labs, animal house and other speciality infrastructure. While the first phase would be ready next month, the project would be completed in 2009.
