Punjab to move Supreme Court to stall Hansi Butana canal

Patiala, June 16 (UNI) The Punjab government would move Supreme Court to seek stoppage of work on Hansi Butana canal in Haryana after the Punjab and Haryana High Court declined to do so, State irrigation minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon said here today.

The Government has directed the state Advocate General to take all legal measures to stall the construction of the 109-km Hansi Butana multi-purpose link channel to release water from the Bhakra Main Line (BML) to the Western Yamuna canal in Haryana.

The state government had already engaged the services of well known legal experts, Mr Venugopal and Mr Harish Salve to pursue the case, he added.

He charged the Union minister for Water Resources S Soz with adopting double standards for justifying the construction of Hansi Butana canal while opposing construction of Dasmesh canal in Punjab.

The minister, who is also the chairman of district planning board, was here to list the achievements of 100 days of the SAD-BJP government.
