HEILIGENDAMM, Germany, June 7 (Reuters) White House National Security spokesman Gordon Johndroe said today that North Korea's missile test activity was ''not constructive'' and Pyongyang should focus on dismantling its nuclear programme.

''The United States and our allies believe that North Korea should refrain from testing missiles,'' Johndroe said in a statement to reporters on the sidelines of a Group of Eight summit.

North Korea fired up to two short-range missiles off its west coast on Thursday, South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted government officials as saying, the second launch in as many weeks.

''North Korea should focus on the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula and fulfill its obligations under the February 13 agreement,'' Johndroe said. ''This kind of activity is not constructive.'' North Korea has so far refused to implement the February deal with South Korea, the United States, Russia, China and Japan under which it agreed to begin shutting down its nuclear programmes in return for energy aid.
