IFF recommends Ruchi, Karamjit for Arjuna Award

Patiala, May 26 (UNI) Indian Fencing Federation (IFF) has recommended the names of two Punjab women fencers, Ruchi Trikha and Karamjit Kaur for the coveted Arjuna Award for 2005-2006.

The secretary-general of IFF Mr Arun Kumar Vij told UNI here today that Ruchi is the first Indian girl to win a gold medal in an international competition.

Ruchi has won the gold medal in the 12th Thailand Open Asian Fencing Championship held in Bangkok from July 7 to 12 last year.

She has also won the gold medal in the team event in the Championship.

She is a student of the local Modi College and trains at the NIS here.

Karamjit student of Physical Education College here, has also brought laurels for the country in international fencing competitions.

Both Ruchi and Karamjit were part of the Indian Fencing team to the last Asiad in Doha.
