Cops ABA rejected

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, May 22 (UNI) Additional district and sessions judge S B Savale today rejected the anticipatory bail application of three police officers, allegedly involved in the rape of a minor from Parbhani district.

Three of the accused, assistant commissioner of police, B U Palwe, his driver Syed Azhar, and Sajed Hussain Shaker Hussain, PSI posted at Parbhani, had applied for anticipatory bail, which was rejected by the court, according to public prosecutor, Mr Vilas Dhorde Patil.

The public prosecutor opposed the bail plea, saying that it might hamper process of investigations, a number of accused have not yet been arrested and that custodial investigations were required to find out the truth.

These policemen face charges of rape and obscenity. The girl has accused 18 persons of raping her and forcing her into prostitution.

Five persons including the pimp Shamim Tabassum, arrested on April 22, are already in jail with their bail pleas rejected.

The case had come to the fore with the arrest of five persons including the pimp from a hotel by the Kranti Chowk. Then the girl (15) had accused a number of policemen and prominent persons of sexually assaulting her. The case has been handed over to the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
