Itanagar, May 11 (UNI) The 756 Border Road Task Force(BRTF), which converted the NH 52 into a traffic worthy road within five years, has been adjudged as the best task force during 2006-07 for their performance.

According to sources here today, Project Vartak chief engineer S S Porwal recently handed over the trophy to 756 BRTF commander U K Pandey, under whose leadership the entire team achieved the success.

Providing road connectivity to far-flung Huri by constructing the Hapoli-Sarli-Huri road in record time and double laning of NH 52 between North Lakhimpur and Akajan in Asom under the special accelerated road development programme for NE were some of the remarkable achievements of the unit.

Project Vartak was first raised during 1960 by the Border Roads Organisation(BRO) to develop and maintain roads in border areas despite tough challenges because of difficult terrains, inclement weather and high altitude.

Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal Kiren Rijiju had demanded in the Parliament recently that the noble services of the BRO personnel should be recognised for their dedicated services to the nation.

The award is the recognition of sincerity of every member of my unit. Moreover, the untiring support of road construction companies (RCCs), 1079 Field Workshop, 528 Store Supply and Transport Company and 1591 Pioneer Company need special mention, stated Mr Pandey.
