Kottayam, Apr 18 (UNI) Rubber Board Chairman Sajen Peter today denied media reports that the Centre was planning to amend the Rubber Act to change the set-up of the Rubber Board for eliminating representatives of the state government and plantation owners from the Board.

Mr Peter also clarified that the Centre had not taken any decision to import rubber from Thailand by reducing the import duty.

The Board had apprised the Union Commerce Ministry its view, that there was no need to import rubber by giving incentives and concessions now as the country had surplus rubber production during the past three years.

Rubber production in the country during 2006-2007 was 8.53 lakh tonnes and consumption 8.20 lakh tonnes, he added.
