New Delhi, Apr 18 (UNI) The ongoing programme of early Childhood Education by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) will now be expanded to five regional institutes of Education(RIEs).

These institutes are Ajmer, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Mysore and Shillong.

The initiative is among the several taken by the NCERT to improve the quality of school education.

It has also decided to reorient over 30,000 teachers about how to use school text books, through teleconferencing and Edusat.

They will also have face-to-face interaction in RIEs.

The Department of Teacher Education and Extension(DTEE) had undertaken a series of measures aiming at reformulating the pre-service programmes of RIEs. On recommendation of a committee appointed by the NCERT, the two-year B.Ed programme will be replaced by one year programme followed by a long duration internship.

Some of the other repforms introduced in Teacher Education Curriculum include integration of theory and practice, content and pedagogy and integration of information, communication and technology into school education.
