Death of Indians in Virginia shooting condoled

New Delhi, Apr 18 (UNI) The United States and South Korea today expressed shock and dismay at the death of two Indians in the shooting incident at Virginia Tech University campus on Monday.

In separate statements, the embassies of the two countries in New Delhi also expressed sympathies with the families of the two Indians killed in the incident in which 33 people were shot dead by a gunman.

US Ambassador David C Mulford said in a statement that the US Mission in India was ready to extend any assistance to the families of the two Indians who were killed in the incident.

He said Indian students and scholars were valued members of the US higher education communities.

Observing that tragic events have a capacity to link people around the world, he said the Virginia shooting incident was no different and the murders had deeply touched the US people.

The South Korean embassy statement said their country was particularly grieved to learn that two prominent Indians were among the victims of the unfortunate incident.

The embassy statement expressed ''deepest sympathies and sincere condolences'' to the bereaved families and friends of the two Indian victims.
