Court grants bail to husband in attempt to rape wife

New Delhi, Apr 18 (UNI) A local court today granted bail to one Kamal Shandlya who with his friends allegedly tried to rape his wife.

Twenty one-year-old Swati Shethi was allegedly thrown out of a moving car by her husband and his friend after they failed to rape her in Malviya Nagar in south Delhi.

The victim's family alleged that she had been repeatedly harassed and physically tortured by her husband and in-laws for dowry.

Police had arrested and registered a case under IPC section 323(voluntarily causing hurt) and section 376/511 (attempt to rape) against Shandlya.

Shandlya and his wife eloped and married against the wishes of their parents who later solomnised their marriage on May 22, 2004.

After hearing the arguments, Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Singh granted bail to Shandlya with the surety of Rs 20,000.
