Mumbai, Apr 18 (UNI) The BEST buses in the metropolis will be off the road for 72 hours from this midnight to press for their long-pending demands.
Mr Uday Ambolkar, secretary BEST (Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport) Workers Samiti, said the union has unanimously decided to go on strike for 72 hours from midnight tonight to press for their long-pending demands which includes a revision of the pay scale, an interim dearness allowance till the signing of the new wage agreement, and payment of bonus and incentives.
Mr Ambolkar said several rounds of meeting had been held with the BEST administration over these demands, but the negotiations had remained inconclusive.
He said the BEST employees had already given their mandate to launch an indefinite strike through secret ballot last month.
The 72-hour strike is a prelude to the indefinite strike, he said.
Over 3500 BEST buses would remain off the roads as a result of the 72-hour strike, he added.
