B'lore: Mono rail project may out-chug Metro
Bangalore, Apr 5: The implementation of proposed Metro rail and Mono rail may happen simultaneously, if the pace at which the Karnatak government is pushing the latter is anything to go by.
"The Mono rail project consultant, which is likely to be in place in a fortnight's time, will submit a detailed project report in 2 months. Based on the report, the project will be taken up. In all probability, the Mono rail work will start by this year-end," official sources in Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation told sources.
In fact, implementation of Mono rail is faster compared with Metro rail. "If the Mono rail work starts by this year-end, it can be completed along with the Metro or much before," officials said.
BMRC has set 2011 as deadline for completion of the entire Metro rail project. Already, the contract has been awarded for the first 7-km stretch between Byappanahalli and Chinnaswamy Stadium. The work is set to begin on April 15.
Thomas Report
The P S S Thomas Committee, which is working on fixing a 'fair' value of land to be acquired for the Metro, will submit its report to BMRC on Thursday. "We've to discuss the report's recommendations at the BMRC board before finalising it," official sources said.
Sources said the process of distributing compensation to the owners of the over 600 properties would begin by this month-end.
