Air Marshal Apte takes over AOC-in-C, MC

Nagpur, Apr 3 (UNI) Air Marshal Jayant Satchinanand Apte has taken over as the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) of the Nagpur-based Maintenance Command (MC) of the Indian Air Force (IAF).

Air Marshal Apte assumed the command yesterday, Born succeeding Air Marshal K S Chaturvedi who has retired.

in Nagpur in 1947, air Marshal Apte graduated in 1967 from Visveswarayya Regional College of Engineering (VRCE, now Visveswarayya National Institute of Technology - VNIT), and was commissioned into the IAF the next year, an official release here said.

An alumnus of the Defence Service Staff College, Wellington, he has commanded Air Defence Ground Environment System Training Institute at Bangalore and Air Force Station, Kanpur. As Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Engineering-A) at Air Headquarters in New Delhi, he oversaw the techno-logistic functioning of the fleet of Russian fighters, helicopters and transport aircraft and induction of the state-of-the-art aircraft such as Sukhoi-30 in the IAF, the release said.

Prior to his present assignment, Air Marshal Apte was Senior Maintenance Staff Officer at MC here. He has received the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) in 2004 for distinguished service of an exceptional order, the release added.
