Bangalore, Mar 30: The Metro Rail facility will be extended to the new areas of Greater Bangalore, 7 CMCs and one TMC.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Thursday told the legislative council that the Metro Rail route, which was originally planned for erstwhile BMP would be extended further.

"New routes are being finalised," he said. In addition to Metro Rail, Kumaraswamy is still keeping his father H D Deve Gowda's pet project, Mono Rail, alive.

He announced that government will finalise the Mono Rail project before April 4.

Replying to BJP member Aravind Limbavali's question, Mr Kumaraswamy said the government is contemplating implementing the 51-km mono rail across four divisions. The first phase would comprise the Trinity Circle-Marathahalli and the Central Silk Board-Cantonment-Hebbal routes.

It will also be extended to the Greater Bangalore area. The following areas have also been identified for running mono rail. Kanakapura Road, Ring Road, Mysore Road, Katriguppe, National College, Bannerghatta, National Park, Adugodi, Bannerghatta, Tumkur Road, Magadi Road and toll gate.

"The total route would be 51 km and RITES company would be executing the project," he said.
