MP HC quashes petition seeking cancellation of cooperative elections

Jabalpur, Mar 13 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh High Court today quashed a petition seeking cancellation of elections to cooperative institutions.

The petition was filed by MP State Cooperative Agriculture and Rural Development Bank's former Chairman Shankar Pratap Singh Bundela, MP State Cooperative Oilseeds Producers Federation's former Chairman Bhagwan Singh Yadav and District Central Cooperative Bank's former Director Dashrath Singh.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice A K Patnaik and Justice K K Lahoti quashed the petition.

The petition sought stopping appointment of new members in the cooperative sector, dissolving Board of Directors constituted during the Congress regime and elections of chairmen of cooperative institutions.

The petition also sought amendment in the Cooperative Act as per the recommendations of the Vaidyanath Committee besides stopping financial assistance from the Centre as well as elections.

It also demanded the cancellation of the election process carried out so far.

Elections to more than 4,500 primary agricultural credit cooperative societies had been completed on February 28 and the directors had taken charge.
