Bangalore, Mar 6: Partners for Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education (PACE) today launched automotive planning, design and engineering centre at PES Institute of Technology here.

The centre, first in India, a corporate initiative supported by General Motors (GM), EDS, Sun Microsystems and UGS, would set up a product lifecycle management (PLM) education program, which provides an organic connection between development, production and aftersales service stages of the product. Such programmes were widely being adopted by the world automotive industry.

General Motors Technical Centre-India (GMTC-I) would contribute to develop the automotive product lifecycle experts of the future.

Founded in 1999, PACE had supported 38 leading academic institutions around the world through computer-based engineering tools.

Ms Elaine Chapman Moore, Manager, GM Knowledge Centre - PACE, US, said the automotive industry had witnessed global collaboration and digital integration during the last one decade. India was a major partner for her company as the country had clearly pronounced its engineering capability. ''The intention at PACE is to work towards digital integration of engineering system in the world,'' she said.
