Night temperatures rise in the region

Chandigarh, Feb 5 (UNI) Night temperatures rose in parts of north-west India, staying one to five degrees Celsius above normal in the region today.

It was another warm day for the people of the region even as high altitude areas in Himachal Pradesh experienced a mild snowfall yesterday.

Amritsar with 6.9 degrees Celsius recorded the lowest temperature in the plains while Patiala registered 11.1 degrees and Ludhiana 11.5 degrees celsius, which were two degrees and four degrees above normal, respectively.

In Haryana, the minimum temperature hovered above normal by two degrees at Karnal, three degrees at Ambala and five degrees at Hissar, respecgively recording 10.2 degrees, 11.2 degrees and 12.0 degrees celsius. Rohtak recorded 11.9 degrees and Narnaul in Mahendergarh district showed 8.5 degrees celsius.

The mercury also increased in parts of Himachal Pradesh.

Sundernagar in Mandi district recorded 5.7 degrees and Bhuntar in Kullu district 4.3 degrees, one degree above normal. The minimum hovered four degrees above normal in the capital town of Shimla recording 5.7 degrees Tribal areas in the state reeled under cold wave conditions with the mercury hovering below freezing point. The minimum dropped from to minus 2.5 degrees at Kalpa in Kinnaur district.

The night temperature also rose in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas and a bright sunshine greeted the residents during the day.

The city recorded the minimum at 12.0 degrees celsius which was four degrees above normal.

The weather Office has predcited rain or snow in Himachal Pradesh and rain or thundershowers in Punjab and Haryana during the next 24 hours.
