Panaji, Feb 5 (UNI) Panchayati Raj Minister and Goa Olympic Association (GOA) president Subhash Shirodkar said Guwahati is the safe venue for the 33rd National Games to be held from February 9 to 18.

Mr Shirodkar was speaking to mediapersons after announcing the Goa contingent of 75 in the six disciplines of athletics, women's football, taekwondo, boxing, sepak tak raw and archery.

He said out of the total 31 events in the Natiobnal Games, Goa will participate in six events. Among the 75 players, eight will participate in athletics, 10 women in taekwondo, 11 men in boxing, 17 men and women in sepak takraw, 21 women in football and 8 in archery. Navin Acharya will be the Chef-de-Mission.

Except sepak takraw squad, the rest of the players in the five events will leave for Guwahati tomorrow morning by train. Sepak takraw team will leave on February 9.

Goa Football Association's (GFA) decision to pull out the men's team from the National Games was a great disappointment, said secretary Gurudatta Bhaktha, who was also present for the briefing.

Mr Shirodkar hoped that Goa will do better this time than the last National Games held in Hyderabad in 2002.
