Bangalore, Feb 5 (UNI) The Opposition Congress disrupted proceedings in the Karnataka Legislative Council for the fourth consecutive day today, opposing the appointment of JD(S) member N Thipanna as the Officiating Chairman of the Council, forcing adjournment of the House twice.
As soon as the House assembled, Leader of the Opposition H K Patil reiterated that his party was not ready to recognise Mr Thipanna as the Chairman and appealed to him not to occupy the post. The House witnessed uproarious scenes when the Congress members raised slogans that the appointment was ''illegal and unconstitutional''.
Taking strong exception to Mr Patil's remarks, Higher Education Minister and floor leader D H Shankaramurthy demanded that the Chair seek an apology from the Congress members for showing disrespect to it. The continued protest on the issue was a ''shameful act'', he said, urging the Opposition to allow the House to continue proceedings smoothly as many burning issues, including Cauvery verdict and drought situation, were to be discussed.
Even Mr Thippanna's plea to the Opposition members to participate in discussions failed to bring order in the House, following which he adjourned the House for 30 minutes. However, when the Council re-assembled, pandemonium prevailed again and the House was adjourned till 1530 hrs.
