'Tata Steel to become 100 MT company by 2015'

Jamshedpur, Jan 1: Tata Steel managing director B Muthuram here today said the company will produce 100 million tonnes steel by 2015.

He also said the steel major is planning to set up a number of green field projects in India and overseas.

Speaking on the eve of new year's celebrations here Mr Muthuraman said, '' We belive it's possible to make it a 100 MT company as it has the tenacity to acheive the goal within the specified time frame.'' He said Tata Steel, which is observing its centenary year in 2007, had a capacity of five MT presently and would produce 7 MT by 2008 and the production would shoot up to 10 MT by mid 2010.

He further added the company's production would increase thrice in the next three years since the year 2000, when it produced only three MT.

Expressing satisfaction over the company's prospect in 2006 Mr Muthuraman said ''In every aspect including operations, production and raw materials, Tata Steel's performance was extremely satisfactory.'' Although the six MT project in Orissa and five MT project in Chhatisgarh were going on as per schedule but the progress of the proposed 12 MT green field steel plant in Jharkhand was not satisfactory, he said.

''It may be due to uncertain political scenario but I will talk to chief minister Madhu Koda regarding this and hope that the government will act quickly,'' he said.
