SMC begins 'Nirmal Gujarat-2007' campaign with enthusiasm

Surat, Jan 1 (UNI) Surat Municpal Corporation has begun the campaign of 'Nirmal Gujarat-2007' with various initiatives like cleaning of statues in the city squares, offices and schools.

SMC Commissioner initiated the campaign today by cleaning the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Chowk Bazar. Many other statues in the city were also cleaned today.

Staff members of Corporation took up the cleaning drive in many Corporation offices in the city. The SMC headquarters in Mugali Sarai, various zone offices, octroi collecting points, health centres and anganwadis would be cleaned as part of the programme, sources said.

All the damaged furnitures will be removed and a proper system of keeping the files would also begin, a senior official of SMC told UNI here.

Surat Sikshan Samity will take initiative to clean up 150 schools owned by the Corporation, sources said. All the Sikshan Samity members will participate in the campaign, sources added.
