Farmer sets boy afire for damaging crop

Anand, Gujarat, Jan 1 (UNI) Police have registered a complaint against a farmer here who allegedly attempted to kill a 13-year-old boy after the latter trampled upon his crops.

The farmer, Kaushik Patel, from Parvata village in Umreth taluka of this district has not been arrested yet, police said.

The incident occurred late last evening. Earlier in the day, the boy, Anil Rambhai Parmar, ran through Patel's field to catch a kite and theregy damaged the crop.

Upon discovering the damage to his crops and on learning that it was Anil who was responsible for the same, Patel charged into the boy's house and dragged him out. Thereafter, he set the boy afire after severely beating him up right in front of his parents, police said.

The boy was rushed to the nearby Karamsad town's health centre and later shifted to the Sir Sayajirao Gaikwad (SSG) Hospital at Vadodara for the further treatment.
