New Delhi, Jan 1 (UNI) BJP President Rajnath Singh today sought to downplay the issue of serving notices on party MPs, who absented themselves at BJP National Council meeting at Lucknow, and clarified that the party had not served any notices on them, but was only wanting an explanation for their absence.
Speaking at the occasion of a lunch hosted by senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, on the absence of several former film stars- turned MPs, including Mr Shatrughan Sinha, Mr Vinod Khanna, Ms Hema Malini and Mr Dharmender. Mr Singh said no notices were served on them as reported by the media but the party merely wanted an explanation for their absence.
He was seeking explanations to maintain discipline, he said.
He, however, conceded that Mr Shatrughan Sinha had intimated about his inability to attend the Council meeting that ratified him as BJP President.
Mr Singh also stated that he was in no hurry to reconstitute his office- bearers team as his immediate priority was to face the forthcoming elections, including his home state of Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Punjab, Manipur and Goa. One should not be surprised if the new team is formed after that, he said.
Mr Singh, who took over the reins from Mr L K Advani in January last year, continued with the same team and was expected to reconstitute a new one after his election was ratified by the BJP National Council.
