New Delhi, Dec 18: Talented kids across eight categories including artist, dancer, entertainer, musician, leader, sports, genius and singer have been honoured for their achievements at the third edition of the POGO Amazing kids Awards' recently.
Among those hundreds of 'extraordinarily talented' children across the country ''waiting to get their share of limelight'' included a 13-year-old National award-winner in art, a five-year-old skating champion in Maharashtra, an 11-year-old who has won grade eight from the internationally-famous Trinity College of Music and a 14-year-old who has won seven national awards in swimming.
Though the glittering ceremony, telecast on POGO channel last night, saw presence of celebrities from the world of television and films like Bollywood star Preity Zinta, TV actress Mona Singh (of 'Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin' fame), TV actor Manav Gohil, film actor Anupam Kher, Parliamentarian Priya Dutt, musician Sivamani and singer Babul Supriyo, it were the 24 finalists of the POGO Amazing Kids awards that held centrestage, shining brighter than the stars with their amazing achievements at such a tender age.
While 13 year-old Pallavi Mazumdar from Kolkata won the award of 'POGO Amazing Kid - Artist' for her amazing achievements in the field of art including the National Balshree Award 2005 for Art and winning 'Design a Stamp Contest' by Ministry of Communication&IT and a medal in the Asian Children Art Contest 2002, 14 year-old Rajkumari Sanathoi from Imphal, Manipur, who is the winner of National Balshree Award 2004, was declared 'POGO Amazing Kid - Dancer'.
Five year-old Muskan Vijay from Gwalior was given the title 'POGO Amazing Kid - Entertainer', which he received from Bollywood actor Anupam Kher, for his achievement in becoming an under 11 Maharashtra Skating Champion and creating a record by skating under 45 Tata Sumo cars while 13 year-old Akrit Jaswal from Chandigarh was crowned 'POGO Amazing Kid - Genius' for completing his primary education (class 10) at the age of seven.
His achievements includes - conducting an independent surgery of post burn contracture of a burnt hand at 7, winning National Child Award for exceptional Achievement in the field of Medical Research in 2004. This little whiz kid is presently studying in his Second year, B Sc at Punjab University! 14 year-old Shravya M from Hyderabad received the 'POGO Amazing Kid - Leader' Award from Priya Dutt for bringing awareness about conservation of the environment while 11 year-old K Sathyanarayanan from Chennai, who has excelled Keyboard playing and completed grade eight from Trinity College of Music at the age of ten, was awarded POGO Amazing Kid - Musician by Sivamani.
Another 'Young Genius' lauded on the occasion with the 'POGO Amazing Kid - Sports Award' was 14 year-old Aaron D'souza from Bangalore, who has not only won seven international awards in swimming but has also created seven national records.
11 year-old Vignesh Chandrashakhar from Chennai was selected by A R Rahman to sing.
Winners of POGO Amazing Kids Awards 2006 received a citation, trophy and a child benefit policy worth Rs five lakhs at a glittering ceremony held in Mumbai on December 10.
Sudev N M from Chennai was chosen as the lucky winner of the 'POGO Amazing Kids Awards 2006 Vote and Win contest' and was the winner of an exclusive, Dilip Chhabria custom designed car.
Instituted by POGO in December 2004, POGO Amazing Kids Awards, which recognise young achievers and rewards them for their outstanding accomplishments in multiple areas of excellence such as arts, leadership, sports and music, is the first-ever kids' television award.
The Kids are also empowered to exercise their choice, and vote for their favourite icons from the world of music, sports, movies and television.
Riding on the immense success of previous editions of POGO Amazing Kids Awards 2004 and 2005, this year, the show boasted of an all new format with a nineteen episode series and for the first time, included audience interactivity nationwide. The series was Hosted by television anchor/VJ Mini Mathur along with POGO anchors, Niall, Chinu and Rob. Derek O'Brien&Associates Pvt Ltd, headed by the distinguished and well known kids' anchor, Derek O'Brien managed the entire selection and search process for POGO Amazing Kids Awards 2006.
Says Ms Maya Rao of Miditech, the company that has produced the PAKA since its inception, ''keeping inview the huge popularity of the show, this year we decided to introduce a new format wherein the achievements of nominees in each of the categories were highlighted. During these episodes we went to the respective states of the five children nominated in each of the eight categories to give viewers a feel of their lives.'' Also, unlike the previous editions of the award, the winners in each category were chosen through an opinion poll of the kids from across the country.
''Out of the 40 kids shortlisted from hundreds of entries received, 24 finalists for the awards were selected through detailed assessment by an eminent executive jury comprising Kiran Bedi (for Leader), Shakuntala Devi (for Genuis), Shantanu Moitra (for Musician), Bose Krishnamachari (for Artist), Kunal Kohli (for Entertainer), Anita Ratnam (for Dancer), Charu Sharma (for Sports), Vasundhara Das (for Singer) and Derek O' Brien who judged all the categories with the panel. The final eight winners from the twenty four finalists were decided upon based on votes received from kids across India,'' Ms Rao said.
POGO Amazing Kids Awards 2006, were divided into two sections - POGO Voice Awards and POGO Kids Awards. The POGO Kids Awards segment recognises exceptional talent and brilliance and rewards them for their extraordinary talents in multiple areas. Like every year, POGO invited nominations from parents and principals of meritorious kids as well as self-nominations from children who feel they deserve the award in a particular category. The entries were open to all Indians up to 14 years of age.
The POGO Voice Awards yet again enabled children across India to choose their favourite celebrity icons amongst nominees in various award categories. The winners of POGO Voice Awards this year are Hrithik Roshan (Most Amazing Actor - Male, for Krrish), Priyanka Chopra (Most Amazing Actor - Female, for Krrish), Krrish (Most Amazing Film), Special Effects in Krrish (Most Amazing Moment in a film), Masti Ki Pathshala (Most Amazing Song, from Rang De Basanti), Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Most Amazing Foreign Movie), Paresh Rawal (Most Amazing Comedian, for Phir Hera Pheri), and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Most Amazing Sports Hero, Cricket). Five lucky kids chosen out of 1,23,000 votes won the fabulous opportunity of attending the in-studio grand finale of the POGO Amazing Kids Awards 2006.
