No respite from rains, snow in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 12 (UNI) Rains continued to lash plains while the upper reaches of the Kashmir valley experienced snowfall on the second consecutive day today, resulting in a considerable drop in temperature and disrupting the normal life.

The Valley is in a grip of severe cold following heavy rains and snowfall in plains and upper reaches of the Kashmir valley for two consecutive days.

However, the 300-km Srinagar-Jammu and 434-km Srinagar-Kargil-Leh national highways were open for vehicular traffic while several incoming and outgoing flights were delayed due to bad weather.

A Gondola cable car project official told UNI over phone from Gulmarg that heavy snowfall was witnessed in the ski resorts of Khilanmarg, Kongdoori, Yousmarg, Apharwat and other upper reaches.

Heavy snowfall was also recorded at Sadhna Top, Karnah, Gurez, areas near the Line of Control and other higher reaches in Baramulla and Kupwara districts while the plains had rains.

The holy cave shrine of Amarnath and its periphery also recorded snowfall besides Sheshnag, Mahagunas, Pissu Top and Panjtherni in south Kashmir.

The Srinagar city and its adjoining areas experienced heavy rains, resulting in a considerable dip in temperature.
