Chandigarh, Dec 2 (UNI) The 69 Engineer Regiment, nicknamed as Team 69, concluded their historic first Raising Day celebrations with a social gathering at the Team's Mess in the Western Sector here today.

Maj Gen Gautam Dutt, Director General Works (DGW) was the chief guest on the occasion.

Keeping in line with high traditions of the Indian Army, the Regiment celebrated its Raising Day by organising a 'Sainik Sammelan', which was addressed by Col Rajan Kheterpal, the first Commanding Officer of the Regiment.

The celebrations also included a scintillating performance by a Jazz Band and a variety entertainment programmes for all ranks and families, which was followed by 'barakhana'.

During its initial days of raising, the Regiment carved a niche for itself in the annals of the glorious history of Sappers through its contribution towards operational tasks. When landslides made road communication impossible in Kinnuaur district of Himachal Pradesh, the Regiment deployed its dozer detachments for widening and clearance of NH-22 in the stretches from Tapri to Karcham and Wangtu to Tapri.

The Regiment also rendered assistance by providing earth-moving plants for construction of the Kharo Bridge on River Sutlej in Kinnuaur, which was washed away in flash floods during last year's monsoons.
