9 bonded labourers rescued from rice mill
Kancheepuram (Tamil Nadu), Nov 13: Nine bonded labourers, including four women were rescued from a rice mill at Kuvatthur near Madurantagam in this district today.
Police said the District Collector Pradeep Yadav had been receiving complaints from various places about the engagement of bonded labourers by the mill for some time. Revenue officials raided the spot and released the labourers, including a nine-year-old boy.
Acting on a complaint lodged by Cuddalore District Administrative Officer Rajagopal, Kuvathur police station under the supervision of Madhurantagam DSP Abdul Ajeez had registered a case and were on the hunt for the accused Hemakumar and Vadivelu, police added.
