New Delhi, Nov 12 (UNI) The Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) today demanded immediate lowering of petrol and diesel prices in the wake of the fall in international crude oil prices.

SUCI general secretary Nihar Mukherjee said after the fall in the crude oil prices the government does not have any reason to justify the continue with the existing price of petrol and diesel.

Mr Mukherjee criticised the government for denying people the legitimate relief from high fuel prices in the country.

''After the current fall in the global tariff, the government does not have any further leeway to justify continuation of the existing price structure,'' he said in a statement.

The CPI (M) had earlier asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to cut the prices of petrol and diesel the government had increased in June following the increase in international crude oil prices.
