Raids in 910 hotels in Gujarat to recover VAT

Ahmedabad, Nov 12 (UNI) The revenue department conducted raids at over 900 hotels and restaurants, in seven divisions of the State, in the last two days, to recover Value Added Tax (VAT).

State Revenue Tax Commissioner M M Srivastava in a statement here today said the primary objective of the raids was to recover four per cent VAT levied on customers by the hoteliers and to detect tax evasions.

The highest - 178 raids - were conducted in Surat division, followed by 162 in Vadodara, 145 in Gandhinagar, 132 each in Ahmedabad-1 and Ahmedabad-2, 84 in Rajkot and 77 in Bhavnagar, he said.
