Punjab and Sind Bank enters semis of Surjit Hockey

Jalandhar, Nov 12 (UNI) Punjab Police beat Punjab National Bank 1-0 while Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) drew with Namdhari XI 1-1 to book their semi-final berths along with Punjab and Sindh Bank, Delhi in the 23rd Indian Oil Surjit Hockey Tournament here today.

Punjab and Sindh Bank beat visiting Shadman Hockey Club Rawalpindi 3-0 in their last super league match at the Burlton Park Surjit Hockey Statium here.

With this, Punjab Police and P&S Bank topped Pool C and D respectively with six points. In Pool B BPCL and Namdhari XI were tied with four points each but with better goal average BPCL qualified for the semi final.

Last year's runners up Indian Oil Corporation had already made their way into last four stage after securing full six points in two super league matches from Pool A. Semi finals will be played on Tuesday and final will be played the next day.

Meanwhile, the semi-final line up in women's section has already been drawn and Central Railway will play against Chandigarh XI while Northen Railway will take on Pepsu XI tomorrow.

In the last match of the super league round today, P&S dominated the first half of the game. In the third minute of the game P&S Bank scored the first goal through Kulwinder Singh (1-0). Amid attacks and counter attacks bankmen wasted penalty corners in eighth, ninth and 12th minute while the rival team wasted as many in 22nd, 23rd and 27th minute.

However, in the 30th minute Rajinder posted a field goal to give P&S a 2-0 lead before the half time break. The third goal the for winning team came in the 36th minute through Parminder Singh.
